The battle lines are drawn as Locke puts his plan into action, which could finally liberate him from the island.
The Final Reveal: Jack defeated Nemesis, but received a fatal wound in doing so; he appointed Hurley the new Protector of the Island, who took Ben on as his right-hand man; the sideways reality was a construct of the Losties to connect with each other after they had died.
An Oceanic loading ramp pulls out the missing cargo at LAX. Meanwhile, Jack works in his office.
Jack washes his face in a stream.
Ben, with his broken arm, gets a cup of coffee.
On the Island, Ben loads a gun.
Locke is wheeled out of his room in a gurney
Christian Shepard's casket is loaded onto a truck.
Sawyer puts on his officer badge.
Sawyer looks at Kate's wound.
Kate sits in a car outside as the Oceanic cargo pulls up to the front. Desmond asks if he needs someone to sign for it. The man asks if he's a priest or something, and Desmond says "or something." He tells the man to take it around the back, and helps him with it. The Oceanic employee wheels it away, and Desmond gets into the car with Kate. She asks who died, and he says a man named Christian Shepard. She laughs at the name, and asks if it's a friend of his. He says not exactly, but she stops him and insists to know why they're here. He says no one can tell her why she's here, certainly not him. She asks who he is and what he wants. He says his name is Desmond Hume, and though she doesn't realize it, he's her friend. He tells her he wants to leave. She asks, leave and go where? He says he'll show her.
Kate watches Jack standing in the stream, and steps away. Sawyer approaches, asking if he's okay. Jack says yes, and asks the same. Sawyer says he's wondering what the hell happened up here. Jack says that makes two of us. Sawyer asks if he feels any different as the new Jacob. Jack says not really. Sawyer asks Jack to tell him what's going on.
In the camp, Jack tells them about the heart of the Island and how Jacob told him to protect it. Hurley asks if Nemesis wants to put it out. Jack says he does, and if he does that's it for all of them. Kate asks why he hasn't put it out yet. Sawyer says he doesn't have Desmond yet. Jack points out Jacob didn't say anything about Desmond, but Sawyer says he doesn't say a lot about anything. They decide to split up, with Sawyer going to help Desmond out of the well. Jack says they'll leave a path. Kate jokes that she'll have to resist the urge to follow him anywhere. Hurley says he has a bad feeling about this.
Hurley pulls his Hummer and Sayid says he can't be held responsible for what happens, but Hurley gives him a gun. He asks if anything seems familiar. Sayid calls him insane, and Hurley steps out, saying Sayid will be happy if he sticks around. Hurley knocks on a door of the motel and finds Charlie there, who holds up a Do Not Disturb sign. He asks why he's grinning. Hurley says he has a concert tonight and he has to pick him up. Charlie rejects him, but Hurley says what if he tells him playing this show tonight will be the most important thing he ever does. Charlie tells him off, and Hurley shoots him with the tranq gun. Sayid watches, and asks what that was. Hurley says that was Charlie.
Kate asks Jack why he took the job. Jack says he was supposed to. He says the Island is all he's got left, the only thing in his life he hasn't managed to ruin. Kate tells him nothing is irreversible. Hurley says it would be sweet if they weren't all about to die.
Nemesis wraps some rope and Sawyer watches. Ben cocks a gun behind him and tells him to join them. Sawyer steps out from the brush, and Nemesis asks what he's doing here. Sawyer tells him he's here to help Desmond out, but he looks down and says someone beat him to it. Sawyer says he's guessing Nemesis needs Desmond to destroy the Island. He asks what his plan is then, to go down with the ship? Nemesis says he's not going down with anything, but Jacob's candidates are. Sawyer says they're not candidates anymore. Sawyer hits Ben and grabs his gun, and walks away. Ben asks if he's not going to go after him, and Nemesis says he doesn't have to. Ben says, when he talked about destroying the Island he thought he was speaking figuratively. Nemesis says because he said Ben would be in charge? He says he would be, it will just be at the bottom of the ocean. He invites Ben to join him. Nemesis sees a dog's tracks.
Vincent laps at Desmond's hand, and he's greeted by Rose and Bernard. Bernard takes Vincent to go check the traps with him. Desmond asks how long they've lived here. Rose says they built it in 1975 and then lived a few years before the sky lit up, so she doesn't know. She says after he eats, she needs him to move on. She says she broke their rule with him, they don't get involved. She says whatever got him tossed in a well is the kind of drama they don't want to have to deal with. Desmond agrees, and Bernard comes back, with Nemesis and Ben in tow. Nemesis greets Rose and draws his knife. He tells Desmond to come with him now, or he'll kill them both. Rose says he doesn't have to go anywhere with him, but Nemesis threatens to make it hurt. Desmond asks for his word that he won't ever touch them. Nemesis says, done, and Desmond agrees to do what he wants.
Desmond accompanies Nemesis and Ben through the jungle. Nemesis asks Desmond if he has any idea where he's taking him, and Desmond refers to the bright light. Nemesis asks what makes him say that, and Desmond calls it a hunch. They hear a sound, and Nemesis asks what it was. Ben plays dumb, and hides a walkie talkie in his pocket.
On the other end, Miles tries to get in touch with Ben, saying he found Alpert. Richard wakes up in a thicket, and Miles explains that he thought it would be a good idea to talk to the black smoke, and it threw him into the jungle. Miles says he's not still here, and tells him he's been trying to get Ben on the walkie but he won't pick up. Richard asks if he still has the C4, and says they still need to go blow up the plane.
Miles gets out of a car and sees Sayid exiting in the Hummer. He calls Sawyer to tell him about it, but Sawyer says it can't be them. Miles says he called them and said they never arrived. Miles asks about Sun's injury, and Sawyer promises to keep her safe.
In the hospital, Sun wakes up and says she's a little sore. Jin says that's what happens when she gets shot. He says a doctor is coming to look at the baby, and then they can leave. She asks, and just keep running from her father? Juliet enters and says she's here to check if the baby is okay. She looks at the chart and apologizes for not realizing they didn't speak English. She tells Sun to lift up her gown a little, and performs an ultrasound. As she does, Sun flashes back to Juliet performing the ultrasound on the Island. Jin asks if she's okay, and she says she remembers. He asks what she's talking about, and then sees his baby on the ultrasound, and he remembers their lives on the Island too. Sun cries and asks Jin if he saw, and they cry together as Juliet points out the baby's heartbeat. Juliet says everything checked out, and asks if they'd like to know if it's a boy or a girl. Sun says it's a girl, and Jin says her name is Ji Yeon. Juliet calls it a lovely name, and observes that they speak English fine.
Sawyer runs through the jungle and surprises Hurley. Sawyer tells him what Nemesis said about destroying the Island. He says Desmond is out of the well, but Jack points out that they're all going to the same place anyway. Sawyer asks, then what? Jack tells him, then it ends. The four continue on up the mountains of the Island.
Jack checks on Locke before surgery, and Locke tells him to call him John. Jack says he just stopped by to say hi, and asks if he's nervous. Locke asks if he's sure it's going to work, and Jack says he's very confident. He points out there's a chance he could kill him, but he's trying to make him feel better. Locke tells him to do it, and Jack starts to leave. Locke asks if his father's body ever showed up, and Jack says they found the coffin and it might be here already. Locke says hopefully it brings some peace. Jack says if he can fix him, it'll be all the peace he needs.
Richard and Miles take their gear, and Richard observes a storm coming. Miles points out that Richard has gotten his first gray hair. Richard grins, and says he just realized he wants to live. Miles calls it great timing. The two paddle towards the other Island, and bump into a body. They see Frank calling for help, and paddle over to help him up onto their canoe. Richard gives him water, and he asks what they're doing out here. Richard tells him they're going to Hydra to blow the plane. Frank tells them that if they leave it won't have a plane anymore. Richard asks how they're going to do that, and Frank says if they haven't noticed, he's a pilot.
Jack's group comes face to face with Nemesis' group at the top of a hill. Nemesis says it will be interesting, but Kate grabs a gun and starts firing for killing the others. Nemesis says she should save her bullets, and walks straight towards Jack. He says it's him, and suggests it's the obvious choice. Jack says he volunteered. Nemesis asks if he's here to stop him? Jack says he can't stop him, he said he's here to come with him. Jack says he's going to the far side of the bamboo forest, to where he's sworn to protect, where he thinks he's going to destroy the Island. Jack says that's not going to happen. Nemesis asks, what's going to happen then? Jack says he's going to kill him. Nemesis asks how he plans to do that, and Jack says it's a surprise.
Juliet greets Jack as doctor, and Jack gives her tickets to the concert. David asks about the tickets, and he says he just gave them to his mom. Jack says he could go with Aunt Claire, and Juliet says she'll be interested to meet her. Jack calls her very pregnant. She leaves with David. Sawyer enters and asks a receptionist for the room of Sun.
Sawyer asks Jack what his surprise is. Jack says it's Desmond, and he's not sure how it's going to work yet. He says he doesn't believe Jacob would've brought him back to destroy it. Sawyer asks if he's bait, and Jack calls him a weapon. Sawyer says it's one hell of a long con. They come to a clearing, and Nemesis says it will just be Jack and Desmond from here on. The two men step forward, but Hurley steps forward to tell Jack he believes in him. The three continue together. The storm sounds are heard again, and Nemesis says it will be a bad one.
They come to the light, and Nemesis ties a length of rope to the trees. Jack ties the other end to Desmond. Desmond says it doesn't matter, the war between the two of them. He says he's going to lower him into that light, and he's going to go somewhere else -- somewhere they can be with someone they love, and never think about this Island again. He tells Jack that he was there, next to him on Oceanic 815, and it never crashed. Desmond says maybe he can find a way to take him there too. Jack says there are no shortcuts or do-overs. What happened happened. He tells him, all of this matters. Desmond crawls into the cave, followed by Nemesis.
Sayid asks Hurley what they're doing, and Hurley says he's not allowed to tell him. He says there are rules, and Sayid asks whose rules, but Hurley tells him to just trust him. He says he trusts Sayid. Sayid asks what he's done to deserve his trust. Hurley tells him he's a good guy, a lot of people have told him he's not. He says so much maybe he's started to believe it. But he has to decide for himself. Sayid says he clearly doesn't know anything about him. Hurley says he knows a lot about him.
They hear the sounds of a fight breaking out, and Hurley watches. A woman shouts to leave her brother alone. Sayid steps in, knocking the man out, and helps the woman up. It's Shannon, and he flashes to his time on the Island as she does as well. She says his name, and he says hers. Boone approaches the car and thanks Hurley for taking his sweet time. He says it was a pain in the ass getting her here from Australia. Hurley says it was worth it. Boone asks if he should go get them, and Hurley says to give them a minute. The two kiss.
Ben picks up the walkie talkie as MIles calls for him. Miles explains that they just got to Hydra Island. Ben tells him not to blow it up, and Miles tells him they're going to fly it off the Island. Claire comes out of the jungle, and Kate picks up the walkie talkie, asking if he said Claire. Claire fires shots at the ground and warns them not to come closer. Kate asks what happened, and Claire asks if they were sent to kill her. Richard says they're not with him, they have a chance to get far away from him. He tells her they can all get home. Richard says she can come with them, but she refuses and walks away.
Nemesis says they'll lower him nice and easy, and Jack asks if he knows what he's doing. Desmond says he'll go where the light is brightest. Jack and Nemesis help give him lengths of rope, and Nemesis asks him if this reminds him of anything -- sending Desmond down into a hole in the ground. He says if there was a button to push they could fight about it. Jack says he's not John Locke, and he disrespects his memory by wearing his face. Jack says it turns out Locke was right about almost everything, and he wishes he could've told him when he was alive. Nemesis says he wasn't right about anything, and when this Island drops into the ocean he'll realize that. Jack says they'll just see which one of them is right. He feels the rope go slack, and they look down into the hole of light.
David, Claire, and Juliet go to the concert. Juliet gets a call from the hospital, and promises to be back as soon as she can. David and Claire lock arms and walk on. Backstage, Charlotte wakes up Charlie. She says he's in the band, isn't he? He asks how she knows that, and she shows him a sign saying "bass player." He walks away, and she gets Daniel Faraday's attention to ask about Charlie. He says he's the bass player, accompanying him tonight. He introduces himself, and she does the same. He says it's a pleasure to meet her.
David comes to table 23 to meet Desmond, and Claire and Kate recognize each other. Dr. Pierre Chang introduces himself and welcomes everyone to the benefit concert. He introduces Mr. Daniel Widmore and Driveshaft. Daniel starts to play, and Charlie sees Claire in the crowd. They meet eyes and she starts to feel a labor pain. David asks if she's okay, and she excuses herself to the bathroom. She walks away quickly, followed by Kate.
Desmond unties the rope and looks around the room, seeing a bright light in a pool. He steps into it, and the light starts to hurt him. His nose bleeds and he screams, walking towards the rock in the center of the pool. He holds it and pulls it out, and the light flashes and fades. A new red light starts to come out as Desmond tries to crawl away. He shouts no, and at the top side, Nemesis says it looks like he was wrong. Nemesis says goodbye to Jack and leaves the cave, but Jack follows close behind and punches him in the face. Nemesis looks up at him, bleeding from the mouth and surprised. Jack says it looks like he was wrong too. Nemesis grabs a rock and smacks Jack in the face with it. Jack lays hurt as Nemesis runs away.
Claire walks through backstage and asks a stage hand about a bathroom. Kate comes in and says he has to get a doctor. The stage hand runs off, and Kate helps her to her seat.
At the concert, Eloise says she thought she made it clear that she was to stop this. Desmond says yes, perfectly clear. Eloise asks what happens once they know? Desmond says then, they're leaving. She asks if he's going to take her son. He says not with him, no.
Kate tries to coach Claire through the pregnancy, and Charlie comes back stage. He sees Claire, who asks who he is. He says he's with the band, and Kate tells him to get water and blankets. Kate tells her to start pushing, and she says she's scared. Kate says she's scared too, but she needs her to push because she can't do it without her. She coaches her through labor, and Kate flashes to her life on the Island as she delivers the baby. Kate hands baby Aaron to Claire. She cries as she holds her son. Charlie returns with the blanket, and holds Claire's hand. As he does, he flashes to the Island as well. He says her name and they kiss. Kate watches. Desmond enters and asks if she understands. She asks, now what?
The whole Island shakes. A tree falls, and Ben pushes Hurley out of the way, resulting in it falling on him. Jack wakes up as rain falls. He goes back into the cave, with rocks falling around him. He calls down for Desmond, but gets no answer. He runs out of the cave.
Kate tells Ben they're going to get him out of here somehow, but Sawyer calls it too heavy. They keep trying, but another quake stops them. Kate asks what's happening. Sawyer says the Island is going down. Miles calls on the walkie talkie. Kate answers and asks what's happening. Kate asks if he's with Claire. Miles says she doesn't want to come, and explains that Lapidus is there and they're taking off. The Island rocks again. Miles asks how long before they can take off, and Lapidus says five hours, maybe six. Miles tells them to get over there within an hour. Ben tells them they can get over there on Nemesis' boat.
Nemesis looks out at his boat off a cliff. Jack shouts at him. Nemesis draws his knife and they charge towards each other.
They knock each other over and Jack punches Nemesis in the face. They reengage, and Jack kicks him and locks him in a head lock. Nemesis fights back, and then the Island quakes again, making the knife roll closer to the water. Jack pins Nemesis, but Nemesis grabs the knife and stabs Jack in the gut. Jack falls down, and Nemesis goes for another stab, inching the knife towards his neck. Nemesis says he wants him to know he died for nothing. Nemesis is shot from behind, and Kate shouts that she saved him a bullet. Nemesis starts to get up, but Jack kicks him off the ledge against a rock, where he lays still.
A nurse asks Jack what happened to his neck. He feels the blood and says dammit. He observes that Locke is stable, and starts to leave. A nurse says he's starting to wake up, but he got a full dose of anesthesia. Jack says he'll take over from here, and asks Locke if he's awake. He tells him he needs to try not to move, so he needs to just relax. Locke says it worked. Jack says they won't know for a while, but Locke says it worked, he can feel his legs. Jack says it's unlikely he'd gain sensation that quickly, but he moves his toe. Jack removes the sheet, and Locke sees his toe moving. He flashes back to the Island as well. Locke asks Jack if he saw it, but Jack seems confused. Jack tells him he can't go anywhere, and tells him he needs to go see his son. Locke tells him he doesn't have a son. As Jack leaves, Locke says he hopes someone does for Jack what he just did for him.
Kate helps Jack up the cliffside. He says he's fine, just find him some thread. Sawyer and the others come, and he asks what happened. Kate says that Nemesis is dead, it's over. Sawyer takes a look off the cliff, but the Island is still quaking. Sawyer says it doesn't feel like it's over.
Sawyer enters, asking for Ms. Paik. He introduces himself from the LAPD, and says he didn't expect her to be checking out so soon. Jin says hello. He shows a picture of Sayid and asks about the man, and Ms. Paik says he doesn't have to do that. Sawyer says it's his job to keep them safe. Sun says she is safe. Jin says he'll see him there. Sawyer asks, see him where?
Frank works to reset the electronics in the plane. He says something's wrong with the hydraulics, and asks if either of them are mechanical. Miles says he worked for a contractor, so Frank hands him supplies and tells him to go. Ben calls on the walkie talkie asking for a timetable. Frank shouts not to bother him and tosses it away, and Ben says it sounds like they're making progress. Sawyer asks what they should do now.
Kate says she doesn't understand, if Nemesis is dead how is this happening? Jack says whatever Desmond turned off, he has to turn it back on again. Kate says he can come too, he doesn't have to do this. Jack says yes he does, but Kate tells him to let the Island sink. Jack says he can't. He asks if they can make it over in time. He gets up and shakes Sawyer's hand, and wishes him good luck. Ben tosses Sawyer the walkie talkie and tells him if the Island is going down, he's going down with it. Hurley says he's going with Jack too. Jack tells Kate she has to go and get Claire on the plane. She asks him to tell her she'll see him again. He doesn't answer, and they kiss. Kate says she loves him, and he says it back to her. Jack, Ben, and Hurley leave as Kate cries.
Miles and Richard work to repair the plane, and Richard asks if he fixed it. Miles says he believes in duct tape, and that he thinks they're good. Sawyer calls Richard on the walkie talkie, asking them not to leave without them. Frank says they're taking off while there's ground to take off from, so they have to get over there now. Sawyer suggests to Kate that they jump. Kate jumps first, followed by Sawyer.
Sawyer passes Jack in the hospital, and asks where to get food. Jack suggests the vending machine, and Sawyer thanks him. Sawyer puts a dollar in and selects an Apollo bar, but it gets stuck. He shakes the machine, and then reaches into it. Juliet walks up and asks if she can help. He says it's okay, he's a cop. She suggests he read the machine its rights. He calls it funny, and she tells him to unplug it and then plug it in again, and the candy drops down. He asks if it's true. She says yes, but it's technically illegal. He tries it, but all the lights go off in the room. She reaches in to get the candy bar and hands it to him, and they both flash to the Island. They back away from each other, and he asks if she felt that. She says they should get coffee sometime. He says he'd love to but the machine ate his dollar. They touch for longer and flash to their lives up to the time she died. He calls her by name, and tells her it's him. They hold each other and she cries. She tells him to kiss her, and they do.
Jack walks to the concert venue, apparently after it's ended. Kate walks up, telling him the concert is over. She asks if he's looking for someone. He says he's supposed to meet his son, since he was supposed to bring him and couldn't come. He asks where he remembers her from. She says she stole his pen on Oceanic 815 from Sydney. He asks, that's how he knows her? She says no, that's not how he knows her. She steps forward and touches his face. He starts to flash, and she says she's missed him so much. He steps away, and she asks if he's okay. He asks what's happening to him, and asks her who she is. She says she knows he doesn't understand, but if he comes with her, he will.
Hurley helps Jack to the cave with Ben in tow. The ground shakes violently and more rocks fall. Hurley asks how they'll get down there, and Jack says he's going alone. Hurley asks if Desmond didn't make it, how is he going to survive? Jack doesn't answer, and Hurley gets teary-eyed. He says no, he's not going to let Jack die. Jack says he's already dead. Hurley says he's supposed to protect the Island, and Jack says that's what he's doing. Hurley insists that he's not supposed to die, the Island needs him. Jack says it needs to be Hurley. Hurley says no, it's supposed to be Jack. Jack says it's only supposed to be him to do this, but if someone has to protect it, it has to be Hurley. Hurley agrees, and says it's only temporary -- as soon as he pulls him up, he's giving it right back to Jack. Jack says, deal. Jack asks if he has anything to drink out of, like a cup or canteen. Ben offers a water bottle. Jack takes it, fills it with water, and tells Hurley to drink it. Hurley drinks the water, and asks if that's it. Jack takes his shoulder, and says now you're like me.
Frank says second time's a charm, or it better be because they don't have the battery power for a third time. The engine starts.
Hurley and Ben help ease Jack down the rope. The ground quakes, and they drop the rope for the last bit of length. Jack gets up, unties the rope, and finds Desmond laying outside the pool of light. He shouts, asking if he can hear him. Desmond says he put out the light, but it didn't work. He says he thought he'd leave this place. Jack helps Desmond up. Desmond says he's still here, and that Jack was right. Jack says there's a first time for everything. Desmond says he has to put it back, it's like a drain. Desmond says he has to put it back, he pulled it out, it has to be him. Desmond asks, what about you, Jack? Jack tells him, I'll see you in another life, brother.
Kate and Sawyer find Claire on the beach, as the ground shakes again. Sawyer looks and sees a large piece of rock fall into the ocean. He says that's not good. Meanwhile, Frank gets ready to start up the engine. Kate asks Claire if she's alright, as the jet starts to roll in the distance. Sawyer tells them they have to go now. Kate asks Claire to come, please. She refuses, saying the Island made her crazy. Kate tells her she's not alone, and asks Claire to let her help her. Claire reluctantly gets up to go, and Miles and Richard tell Frank that they're clear. Sawyer, Claire and Kate run toward the jet. Sawyer shouts into the walkie talkie that they're good to go, but he can't hear. Miles shuts the door, and Frank starts to turn the throttle. He sees them come onto the runway and throttles down. He tells them to open the door.
In the pit, Jack hoists the rock onto the hole in the pool. He pushes it down in, and lays to the side.
Miles and Richard pull Claire, Kate, and Sawyer up into the plane. Frank tells everyone to hold on, and throttles up again, as the ground cracks beneath them. He takes off as the passengers wait nervously. He slowly gets up to speed, and takes off. All of the passengers breathe a sigh of relief.
Jack cries, still in the cracking, shaking cave. Water starts to flow onto him, and the light returns. Ben and Hurley watch, and Ben observes that he did it. Hurley and Ben start to pull on the rope. Jack waits in the cave, as Hurley and Ben pull up Desmond. Hurley shouts for Jack, who lays in the pool of light as it glows brighter.
At the church, Locke pulls up in a taxi cab. The cabbie gets his wheelchair from the trunk and helps him into it. He pays the man, thanks him, and enters to find Ben outside. They greet each other, and Locke asks if everyone is inside. Ben says most of them are, yes. Ben says he's very sorry for what he did to Locke. He says he was selfish and jealous, and wanted everything he had. Locke asks what he had, and Ben says he was special. Locke says that if it helps, he forgives him. Ben thanks him, and says it does help. He tells him it matters more than he can say. Locke asks what he'll do now. Ben says he has some things he needs to work out, so he'll stay here a while. As Locke wheels away, Ben tells him he doesn't need to be in the chair anymore. Locke steps out, and gets up. He says goodbye to Ben, and walks up the steps into the church.
Ben props Desmond's head on a backpack outside the cave. Hurley watches the light, and Ben says he thinks Desmond will be okay. Hurley asks if Jack is really gone, and Ben nods. Hurley starts to cry, and Ben tells him that he did his job. Hurley says it's his job now, and asks what the hell he's supposed to do. Ben says he should do what he does best: take care of people. Ben tells him he can start by helping Desmond get home. Hurley asks how, and says people can't leave. Ben says that's how Jacob ran things, but maybe there's a better way. Hurley asks for Ben's help. He says he could use someone with experience, for a little while. He asks for Ben's help, and he says he'd be honored. Hurley sadly nods and says, cool.
Ben sees Hurley exit the church. Hurley tells him they're all inside. Ben says he doesn't think he's coming in. Hurley says Ben was a real good number two. Ben tells him he was a great number one. Hurley thanks him, and goes into the church again.
Jack pulls into the parking lot with Kate. She asks if he knows where they are, and he says it's where he was going to have his father's funeral. He tells her he died in Australia, and she says she's sorry. He asks why she brought him here, and she says because this is where he's going to have his father's funeral. She tells him to go around back, and that she'll be waiting for him inside when he's ready. He asks, ready for what? She tells him, to leave. She exits his car.
Jack wakes up on a pile of rocks, bloodied and outside the cave. He holds his side as he stumbles up the path.
Jack enters the church, and steps into an office where he finds his father's casket. He touches the casket, and starts to flash to the Island. He touches it again, sustaining it for longer, and flashes back to everything that happened there, ending with his kiss with Kate. He opens the casket and finds it empty. From behind him, Christian says hello. Jack is dumbstruck, and says he doesn't understand. Christian says yes, he did. Jack asks how he's here right now. Christian asks, how is Jack here? Jack says, he died too. Christian tells him it's okay, and hugs him. Jack asks him if he's real, and Christian says he sure hopes so. He tells him that everything that happened to him is real, and all the people in the church are real too. Jack asks if they're all dead. Christian says everyone dies sometime -- some before him, and some long after him. Jack asks why they're here now, and Christian tells him there is no "now" here. Jack asks where they are. Christian says that this is a place that they all made together so they could find one another. He tells him that the most important part of his life was the time that he spent with these people. He says that's why they're all here -- nobody does it alone. He says they needed him, and he needed them. Jack asks, for what? Christian tells him, to remember and to let go. Jack says that Kate told him they were leaving. Christian tells him no, they're moving on. Jack asks where they're going. Christian says, let's go find out. He takes his son's shoulder, and they step into the foyer of the church together.
Jack sees everyone there waiting for him, embracing or talking.
Jack walks through the jungle, holding his side as he bleeds.
Locke shakes his hand and says they've been waiting for him. Desmond and Penny greet him, and he hugs Desmond. He hugs Boone next.
Jack grips onto a bamboo chute, passing a shoe caught in a tree, where he first woke up on the Island.
Jack greets Hurley as Shannon and Sayid look at baby Aaron. Jack greets Sawyer, then finds Kate. He takes her hand.
Jack falls down in the jungle, clutching at his wound.
Everyone sits down in the church. Christian squeezes Jack's shoulder as he passes by.
Vincent barks, and Jack looks to see him approach and lick his face. Vincent lays down with Jack.
Christian walks down the center of the church and opens the doors to a bright light. Everyone watches it fill the room.
Jack lays in the jungle next to Vincent, looking up to see the plane take off. His eye closes.
